Finlandia Sauna has been making authentic Finnish saunas since the 1960s. In fact, the company is the oldest sauna company under original ownership. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Finlandia Sauna brings the beauty and health benefits of traditional Finnish saunas to the United States.
Sauna is their only business, and they specialize in offering the best quality and selection of softwoods out there. Their sauna heaters are even imported from Harvia Oy in Finland because of their unparalleled quality.
Reino J. A. Tarkianinen is a native of Finland, and he grew up taking saunas as a weekly ritual. It’s safe to say that Finlandia Sauna offers the quality, craftsmanship and authenticity that you’re looking for in a Finnish sauna.

Stainless Series (FLB & FIN Models)
Finlandia’s saunas use authentic Finnish sauna heaters from Harvia Oy, which are known for their quality and performance. Their success is the result of constant testing and innovation in both the design and construction departments.
The heaters in Finlandia saunas are designed to have heat poured onto them, and they produce a nice steam.
All of their heaters have:
- Stainless steel elements for durability
- Rocks that sit directly on the heating element to filter the radiating heat from the elements and produce the best steam
- Large rock capacity for added heat storage
- A pressed metal design for the ultimate in strength and durability
- Optimal airflow for quicker heating
Heaters have a 3-wall construction which allows for a cooler surface temperature and added safety. All heaters are also UL tested.

Why Choose Finlandia?
Why choose Finlandia over other brands?
The market for home electric sauna heaters is growing, and you have more options than ever. But Finlandia is a smart choice because of their long history and focus on quality. It also helps that the company is run by a Finland native who understands what goes into creating an authentic, quality Finnish sauna.
What makes their saunas better than others on the market?
For starters, their interior paneling is 3/4″ thick, while most competing models are just 1/2″ thick.
Finlandia also uses only the highest quality softwoods in their saunas.
Why is it important to use softwoods? Because the humidity has to be absorbed in order to keep the atmosphere dry. Softwoods have this property, and they also remain cool to the touch.
Hardwoods, on the other hand, absorb heat, so they become too hot to lean against or sit on.
The wood used in saunas must be kiln dried within 9-11% moisture content to prevent warping and shrinkage.
The company’s headquarters is directly in the heart of the timber country, which makes it a prime location for harvesting softwoods for their saunas.
Finlandia has been manufacturing saunas since the 1960s. A company doesn’t stay in business for more than 50 years without offering a quality product.
I want to take a minute to talk about the company’s paneling, flooring, benches and Finnish heaters because these also highlight the quality of Finlandia’s saunas.
Paneling
Finlandia’s saunas have 1” x 4” T&G paneling that far exceeds the competition, which typically use 5/8” x 4” or 1/2″ x 4” boards.
The 1” x 4” boards used in Finlandia saunas have a small v joint pattern which provide a neat appearance, but they also hide fasteners and nails for added safety. A 1/4″ tongue allows for secure fastening without splitting.
Plus, their 1” x 4” boards have the highest R value and the greatest heat retention. There’s no need to use plywood backing for added strength either.
Finlandia’s boards are 50%-100% vertical grain.
Flooring
Finlandia uses Super Dek flooring in their saunas. These are easy remove and clean. Wood slats, which are used in competing saunas, are awkward, heavy and difficult to remove for cleaning the floor underneath.
Super Dek flooring is:
- Durable
- Sanitary
- Comfortable when walking
- Lightweight
- Water-resistant
- Odor- and bacteria-resistant
- Flexible
- Resistant to staining and discoloration
- Easy to snap together
- Easy to remove for cleaning
Benches
Finlandia saunas have 2” x 2” benches that have 1-3/8” penetration for superior strength and durability. Unlike competitors, their bench tops do not have a tendency to cup, and they have virtually no water retention.
Their bench tops always use vertical grain, and all fasteners are attached from the bottom so that you never have to worry about your skin touching hot metal. The benefit of vertical grain is that it will not lift, warp or sliver.
